The Rapture and the Tribulation

The Scripture and the Rapture:

  • Day of Christ.

Philippians 2:14 Do all things without murmuring and disputing,

15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

(The church, if it were here, would hardly find anything to rejoice in at the battle of Armageddon.)

~The Rapture and the Tribulation period.

2nd Thessalonians 2:1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you,

2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. [The day of Christ and the day of the LORD are not the same day]

3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,

4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?

6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.

7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He [The Holy Spirit] is taken out of the way.

( According to verse 8, after the Holy Spirit, "who dwells in the church", IS REMOVED, then he lawless one will be revealed.)

8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

2ndThessalonians 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains [The Holy Spirit] will do so until He is taken out of the way.

( According to verses 8, after the Holy Spirit, "who dwells in the church", IS REMOVED, then he lawless one will be revealed.)

8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

These two verses are very specific in their message.

Verse 7= For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He [The Holy Spirit] is taken out of the way.

Verse 8= And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

Clearly the lawless one will not be revealed until after the church has been removed from earth.

Some Bile teachers teach that the restrainer is not the Holy Spirit but rather the angel Gabriel. But in Jude 1:9 it is recorded that Gabriel has no power over Satan and he defers a challenge from Satan to the Lord. "Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" There is no Scriptural references that refer to any angel that exercises power over the Devil or to be more than a servant too and a messenger from God.

1st Thessalonians 1:9 For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,

10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

1st Thessalonians 5:9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Some Bible readers are confused by the warning of deception in verses 2nd Thessalonians 2:3-4 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

These verses clearly teach that a great falling away or apostasy will take place before the lawless one will be revealed. A description of this person is included in these verses.

1st Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

These verses clearly teach that "the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first". And That Jesus does not return to the earth at this time but that the dead shall rise first and the living church will be "caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air".

Scripture makes clear the truth that the church will not be included in the day of God's wrath upon the earth at the close of the tribulation period. in fact we are assured in Revelation 19:11-14 That Jesus will return with His people from heaven at the time of the battle of Armageddon. Obviously the church can't be on earth at the same time they are returning with Christ from heaven. Revelation 19:11-14 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.

  • Day of the Lord.

The day of the Lord is the day when Jesus returns to earth in person for the final judgment on the sinful world.

1st Thessalonians 5:2-3 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Revelation 16:13-16 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame." And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.

  • The battle of Armageddon.

Revelation 19:11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.

12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.

12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.

13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.

15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God,

18 "that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great."

19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.

20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.

21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.

HOLY SCRIPTURE, Authoritative

God warned the young congregation in Thessalonica not to be easily misled by a prophecy, report, or letter which might be false. Not all prophetic comment is from God. Not all reports or letters are inspired. The best advice is to turn to the established and clearly inspired letters and words. All teaching about which we have questions can be measured in light of clear Scriptural teachings. Obviously the day of Christ, nor the day of the Lord has not yet occurred.
